I envisioned this center as a resource for faculty, staff and the general audience. Yet, I wanted for this center to be mainly student-oriented: a research and discussion forum resource for students interested in learning more about the ideas that have revolutionized our world during the past two centuries. Having being born and raised in a developing country (Mexico), I have been constantly interested in learning about what type of economic and legal institutions, and the principles and values that emerge from them, make societies prosperous or poor. I hope that by using your critical thinking skills you will find your own answers and that during your intellectual journey you helps us carrying out research that may shed light into some of the most important questions that for centuries, intellectuals have been thinking on. Welcome to your center!Mission of the Center:The mission of the Center for Global Development, Technological Change and Entrepreneurship (CGDTE) is to stimulate the comparative study of theories, institutions, policies and ideas that make societies free and prosperous. The Center is interdisciplinary in nature and employs the scientific tools of economics, geospatial science, criminology, sociology, political science, public policy and public affairs. In this way, the Center aims to encourage discussion and research that incorporate diverse viewpoints from different academic disciplines.Research Themes:The center is organized around four broad themes: the American and European Union experiments, international factor mobility and development, globalization and technological change and entrepreneurial development in the informal economy. The Center fosters a variety of activities: courses and workshops, essay contests, on-line lecture series, internships, a summer abroad program and a postdoctoral fellowship program.
